THE EMOTIONAL BENEFIT OF YOGA FOR PEOPLE

We often talk about the benefits of this ancient practice on the body but not so much the benefits at the psychological level. In addition to helping us to know each other, yoga is very suitable for avoiding insomnia and the development of neurodegenerative diseases.

The main benefits of yoga can be summed up in three groups: body, brain, and spirit. This age-old art undoubtedly enhances our quality of life and consists of various postures, songs, breathing exercises, and meditation.

Generally, yoga is a way of life, a form of finding well-being and inner peace. It involves an observation of the inner self, a disconnect with everything around us, and a quest for personal fulfillment as there is no other.

As it integrates breathing with movement (through postures), this practice indisputably changes us. Yoga is used as a preventive and healing medicine. Yoga stimulates many processes such as blood circulation, oxygenation of cells, and energy transport. All these benefits are undoubtedly related to mental and emotional improvement. Thus, yoga is not only good for the body, but it is also good for the soul.

1. Peace and serenity, the first emotional benefits of yoga

The current life in the city makes us nervous, preoccupied, and irritable. When we practice yoga, breathing helps us relax, calm down, and see things differently. We sharpen our senses, we have a better perception of what is around us, and we reduce arguments and confrontations. By breathing correctly, we eliminate our feelings of anger, rage, hatred … In short, all these emotions that make us sick and allow us to live in harmony.

2. It reduces stress

This word, so well known today, exists because of the rhythm of life we live. We walk quickly, we go from right to left with frowning, we fight with people we do not even know, we hear noise all day … until we get to the yoga class and we get the impression that the world is changing completely practicing this ancient technique, we reduce the levels of cortisol, a hormone related to stress. If it is necessary to regulate our energies and act in stressful situations, when it is at high levels, it is terrible for our health.

3. It reinforces your self-esteem

Through yoga, we can improve self-esteem, examine ourselves but without criticizing ourselves, eliminate all those negative thoughts that limit us and fill our minds with positive ideas that allow us to grow. It is apparent that it is an excellent tool to see everything more obviously, boost our vital energy, have confidence in our abilities, and decide more serenely.

4. It improves the quality of sleep

The melatonin is the hormone which is responsible for maintaining sleep cycles. For its part, the neurotransmitter called serotonin is responsible for regulating mood since appetite. The two balance when we practice yoga, and we can finally rest better at night. If you suffer from insomnia, nightmares, or it is difficult for you to fall asleep, nothing is more recommended than a yoga session. During the night, you will sleep “like a little angel,” and you will have recovered well in the morning.

5. It increases the intellectual abilities

The practice of this oriental knowledge improves our ability to reason, to make decisions, and to think. Moreover, it increases our concentration capacity thanks to the quietness of the postures and the breathing. We can transfer this ability to any daily situation (work, study, etc.) to avoid distractions and to have more memory.

6. It improves the mood

Everyday problems, accounts, transit, overtime. All this changes our way of seeing things and makes us people in a bad mood, angry or grumpy. When we practice yoga, serotonin levels improve and so avoid depression, anxiety, and anger, just like practicing any other physical exercise.

7. It optimizes our relationship with ourselves

If our body and mind are balanced, we agree with others, attain what we want, and always happier. If, on the contrary, we don’t forgive ourselves, we search for thousands of flaws and compare ourselves with the rest, the only thing we will get will be sadness and frustration.

Yoga can help people to:

•    Stop smoking

•    Stop drinking alcohol

•    Do not overeat

•    Achieve its goals

•    See the right side of things

•    Think about the positive of life

8. It prevents neurodegenerative diseases

Yoga, combined with meditation, increases the size of structures called telomeres that, when small, cause premature aging, specific pathology, and early death. With only 15 minutes a day of one of two activities, we ensure the growth of these structures, and we can prevent degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
